5 teams compete in IoT hackathon organized by EDIH Zagore and ICT Strypes

5 teams with representatives of Trakia University, Geo Milev Secondary School, John Atanasov Secondary School, Romain Rolland Secondary School and Prof. Minko Balkanski Secondary School will compete in the one-day hackathon, which will be held as a side event of the first joint information event of the European Digital Innovation Hubs network in Bulgaria on 5 March 2025.

Mentors of the participants will be representatives of ICT Strypes Bulgaria, as well as representatives of ECIC Zagore in the IT sector. The ultimate goal of the competition is to create an IoT solution on the topic “Smart Climate Station – Automation in Everyday Life” that collects real-time data from sensors (temperature, light, pressure, etc.) and visualizes them on a wireless device (smartphone, tablet or laptop) via WiFi, Bluetooth or the Internet. The solution can be web-based or local, but a working prototype that collects sensor data and presents it in an intuitive way. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

The final demonstration must be working (use of simulated data is allowed, but interaction with the hardware is highly recommended), and the judges will evaluate it against its business applicability. This will happen on March 5, when in a real environment in one of the computer rooms of the Trakia University, the hackathoners will connect the hardware and run their solutions on the Raspbery PI platforms. The idea is to collect data in real time and add functionalities. An online meeting with the mentors will be held beforehand on 26.02.2025 to assign the teams and create the initial project. In October, the final build-up part will take place, where after the Artificial Intelligence training over the summer, these ideas will be built upon.
