Vision
The vision of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Zagore is to build an environment for innovation and a sustainable future for the Southeastern Region of Bulgaria. Our main goal is to be the driving force behind the digital transformation and decarbonization in the region, achieving equality and competitiveness in the European context.
Our efforts are focused on fostering a community in which innovation and digital technologies are a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable development and quality of life.
Mission
The mission of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Zagore is to encourage and support digitalization and innovation in the Southeastern Region of Bulgaria. We believe that through digital and green solutions, we can transform and modernize both the private and public sectors. Our mission includes the following aspects:
The transition to green technologies and sustainable practices is essential for the future of the Southeast Region. The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Zagore will support and promote projects and initiatives that reduce the environmental footprint and aid in decarbonization.
Innovation is the key and an integral part of modern economic development and achieving competitiveness. The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Zagore will support entrepreneurs, researchers and startups in the region by providing them with the necessary resources and platforms to develop new ideas, technologies, and products.
Our team believes that cooperation with other regions and countries is essential for successfully achieving our goals. We are always open to partnerships and knowledge exchange to strengthen the regional and international innovation network.
We have identified two leading priorities for the region – Mechatronics and Clean Technologies (MCT) and Life and Health Science (LHS). Our mission includes fostering innovation and development in these areas, thereby supporting the diversity and specialisation of the region’s economy.
(EDIH) Zagore aims to become a centre of innovation and digital technologies in the Southeast Region of Bulgaria. We work in partnership with interested organisations and businesses to achieve a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region and its citizens.
We established the EDIH Zagore with the clear vision of the responsibility that each member has towards the transformation of the region and its communities towards clean and new technologies in all areas of socio-economic life.
Creating the EDIH Zagore website, we wanted to involve another part of the community – the creative youth in the region. We are grateful to the teachers and students of the National School of Plastic Arts and Design “Dechko Uzunov” – Kazanlak for the graphic vision that transforms one of the city’s and the country’s symbols into the dimensions of the digital age.

Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization
Mechatronics and Clean Technologies (MCT)
- IoT systems;
- autonomous energy systems;
- mechanical engineering and assembly of parts, components and systems with a focus on clean transport and energy;
- robotics and process automation, including 3D modeling of robotic automated systems;
- waste-free technologies and methods for incorporating waste products and materials from production into other projects;
- technologies with emphasis on transport and energy (storage, saving and efficient distribution of energy), eco-mobility, models and technologies based on hydrogen
Life and Health Science (LHS)
- 3D modeling and printing in veterinary medicine;
- production of organic food and beverages (including baby and children’s food, space food);
- production of a new generation of instruments and equipment for medical and dental diagnostics and therapy and participation in supranational production chains;
- biotechnologies for direct application for a healthy lifestyle;
- methods for clean production, storage, processing of specific Bulgarian products, e.g. yogurt, honey and bee products, bread, wine, meat products, essential oils, beer, herbal products and cosmetics;
- smart agricultural technologies;
- testing and certification of products and services;
- development of nanotechnology in medicine
